How to improve your link ranking by having Google follow You around the Internet

Climate Change 'Co2' ideas
Creative Commons License photo credit: net_efekt That’s right, you can drive traffic to your site with just a few sentences.  But before I reveal the strategy to you, I have to confess to you about something.

The strategy I’m about to reveal is very powerful, especially with Google’s new rules.  I’ll explain what I mean by Google’s new rules in just a minute.

Now you may already know about this strategy but if you don’t, you’re in for a treat.  Even if you do know this strategy, I suggest you read the entire post because there might be something in here that you don’t know yet.

To tell you the truth, I was hesitating to make this post.  In the end, I decided to do it because even though this might bite me in my Polish a$$, it will benefit you and your website.  And if you have been on my list for the past few months, you know that I share ideas and strategies with you that will help you succeed on the internet.

Sidenote: If you are not on my list, you should be :) by signing up for my free Real Estate Black Book

So how can this strategy fire back in my face?

Well, you may take the strategy, leave this blog and use it on other blogs.  I may never see you on my site again.  Now that I think about it, I want you to go and use it on other blogs because that’s how you’ll succeed with this strategy.

Why would I give you this strategy?

Well, because I am doing an experiment and hoping for 3 things to happen here.  First, I hope that you go ahead and actually use it.  Remember, you success by taking massive action.

Second, I hope that you use that strategy right here on my blog.  It would mean the world to me if you showed me that you are using what I teach you right here on my blog.

And third, I hope that because I am sharing stuff with you that I haven’t seen any real estate investing gurus share, (maybe because they don’t want you to know about them or they just don’t know about them) that you will keep coming back to this blog.

You will read what I share with you, and see that I know a thing or two about getting your real estate investing website high on Google to build your list of buyers, sellers, and investors. Signup to my Real Estate Black Book feed so you never miss another post.

All right, that’s enough of that… onto the strategy.

The strategy I’m talking about here involves posting comments on blogs, but not just any blogs.  You need to comment on blogs that are related to real estate and allow no-follow links.  Let me explain…

How to take advantage of Google to benefit you!

The SEO (search engine optimization) game has changed.  In fact, it seems like Google changes the rules every other minute.  But what stays the same throughout all those changes is one simple fact.  Google wants their customers (people who search on their search engine) to be happy and get relevant results.

For example, if someone types in “exposure on Google,” Google wants results that tell the visitor how to gain more exposure on Google and not some porn site that shows different kind of exposure.  Google wants the search engine results to be relevant to the search term.

How does Google rank the site to make sure it is relevant to the search term?

Well, there are many different criteria.  One criteria is their spiders check incoming links for each site to see what sites link back to that site.  For instance, your real estate investing site needs to have many real estate related sites or blogs link back to your site.

Tip: It is much better for your site to have a high authority site link back to your site.  One simple trick to see what the authority rank for a site is to see their Google pagerank in Google Toolbar Google uses their pagerank feature to rank sites on a scale of 1 to 10.

Now, just because a relevant site doesn’t have a high pagerank, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have them link back to you either.  They might have a high authority site linking to them.  Therefore, when spiders follow the links, they’ll eventually end up on your site.  Just make sure the blogs are relevant to your business.

Follow or no-follow, that is the question…

Post your comments on blogs that allow ‘no-follow links’.  What does that mean?  In a nutshell, blogs that allow the links to follow will allow the commenter to have their site link back to the commenter’s site.

Blogs that do not allow ‘no-follow links’, remove the link follow from the commenter’s comment and search engine spiders cannot tell where the commenter’s link is linking back to.  So, if the blog you are commenting on does not allow ‘no-follow links’, you will not get the SEO benefit of this strategy.

Sidenote: If the blog doesn’t allow links to follow but is relevant to your strategy/site, you should still post a comment there.  Why?  Because there are people reading those blogs and comments.  If they like your comment, then they’ll follow you to your site, you’ll gain more exposure, and increase your authority exposure on the internet.

How do you know if the site allows no-follow links?

Well, there are 2 ways to find that out, the hard way and the easy way.  The hard way is too look through their code to see if their comments are encoded with “no-follow” code .  Personally, I don’t recommend that technique as it is very time consuming.  If you are like me, you’ll want to know in a more systematized way, right?

Therefore, the easy way is to download a free Firefox Search Status Add-on that automatically tells you if the site allows no-follow links.  How cool is that?

All you have to do is download a firefox browser (if you don’t already have one), which I think is much better than Internet Explorer, download the add-on I gave you above, and follow the directions on their site to enable that feature.  (The add-on will appear at the bottom right corner of your browser.  You’ll need to left-click on the add-on and enable the “highlight no follow links” feature.  When you arrive at a blog that doesn’t allow the links to follow, the link will be highlighted for you.)

Now, every time you go to someone’s blog, you’ll see who allows and doesn’t allow links to follow back to your site.

How do you comment & what exactly do you do?

This is critical to the success of this strategy.  When you post comments on blogs, you need to follow these 2 rules.

Rule #1: Make a relevant and thoughtful comment.  Don’t just write “nice post” or “great post” or something along those lines.  Write an actual comment that is relevant to the blog post and contribute to the overall conversation on that blog.  You’ll be surprised what will happen if you just follow this one rule.  People will respond back to you, the blog owner will leave your comment on their blog, and you will gain more exposure.

Rule #2: When you make a comment on the blog, you’ll be asked to provide your name, website, and the comment.  When asked for the website, type in your site address in the space provided.  When you post your comment, your name at the top of the blog will become the links to your site.

Don’t write your website address in the comments area.  Many blog owners frown upon that and it makes your post look like you are not really contributing but using their blog for linking back to your site.

Killer Tip: Instead of writing your name is the name field, write down the keyword you are optimizing for your site.  This way, your link will become an anchor text which is even more powerful search engine optimization technique.

Your Step by step strategy

Step 1- Install  Firefox Search Status Add-on and enable “Highlight no-follow links” in your Firefox browser.

Step 2- Search for relevant real estate blogs on Google to make comments on.  Hint:  You already have one here so post as many comments on this blog as you can.  More comments you have linking back to your site, the better.

Step 3-  Post relevant and thoughtful comments on relevant blogs that benefit the community and engage in the conversation.  Don’t spam blog posts with poor comments.  Trust me!

Step 4- Post your comments on this blog :)

So there you have it.  Just by commenting on blogs you read every day, you can start building your own link building strategy that will have Google follow you around the internet and start sending you targeted traffic while bringing your site up to their first page.

Post your comments and thoughts below.  What do you think about this strategy?  Have you used it before?  If so, did you see any success with it?

I’ve also found that my ads on Craigslist will find their way near the top of the results page. I can’t say much about their effect on overall page rank, but those looking saw my CL ad near the top and, of course, the ad had my URL.

    Thanks,

    Peter,
I found your site through Google Alerts. This article did a better job of explaining the “no follow” tag better than other ones I have read. I already have you bookmarked and will also ad my name to the subscriber list.

That is an interesting strategy. I am still intrigued an will have to read it in better depth.

    Thanks!
