Real Estate Search Engine Optimization- 4 Easy Steps to Dominate Your Local Market On Google

Written on by Peter- REBB Founder

Real Estate SEO-That is the question.  It is one of the most frequent questions I receive from my readers.

“How do I get my real estate search engine friendly on the local level?  How do I use real estate search engine optimization to dominate my local community on the internet?”

Well, let me just say:  “There are dozens of ways.”  You can find tons of them here on this blog.  Just click on different categories, and you’ll have plenty to work with for the next week. Real Estate Video Marketing- 3 Easy Steps to Video Marketing on Steroids, Real Estate Blogs – How You Can Start Generating Real Estate Leads In The Next 15 Minutes, and How to improve your link ranking by having Google follow You around the Internet are just a few posts that can get you started right away.

Today, I am going to share one strategy with you that I don’t see any big time real estate marketers teach.  Why?  I don’t know.  Maybe there are using it as a secret strategy to gain competitive advantage in their local market or they share as part of the paid program.

But today, you are getting it for free.  And it will only take you about 10-15 minutes to implement.  it took me about 10 minutes.  And here’s the best part.  Most real estate investors in your market don’t use this strategy so if you implement it, you’ll gain a huge competitive advantage.  Here it is.  In short…

Google Maps

That’s right.  You own a business, right?  Cool.  The process is simple.

Step1

Go to Google Local Business Center and sign up with Google by adding New Business.  You can do that by clicking on the “Add New Business” in the top right corner of the page.

Step 2

Fill out all of the information required on the next page, including your address, contact info, and web site url.  I would strongly urge you to do 3 things here.  First, add your complete physical address.  Otherwise, Google maps will not be able to map you correctly.  Second, add your website URL.  Not only will this help your company’s site visibility when searched on Google Maps, but the link should be click able and it should help you in your Google rankings.

And third, add the 200 character description.  Make sure your description is optimized with your keywords and don’t go over the 200 character mark.  Also, make sure that the description calls for action and will make your prospect click through to your site.  The description should have a nice flow, be enticing and human friendly.  Don’t spam your listing with bunch of keywords that don’t make sense.

Step 3

Fill out other information such a your company logo and videos.  You can always do that later but make sure you do so.  It will only help your listing get better visibility.

Step 4

Confirm your listing either via phone or a postcard.  Google Maps allows you to choose which way you want to confirm your listing.  They want to make sure that you are the one or someone authorized adding your business listing to Google Maps.  Personally, I went with a phone confirmation.  All I had to do, is click the “Call me Now” button.  Next thing I know, the phone rings, automatic message system asks me for my pin number (given to me on the screen while listing my business) and BAM!  Phone hangs up and the online website screen automatically updates telling me I’m confirmed.  I should have my listing up within 2 days.

And so should you!

Next time someone searches for your keyword locally, your business should come up and you should be up there within the listings, if any for your area.  That’s it.

Now, if you would like to expand on your Google Maps strategy to help  dominate your local real estate market, read my How To Dominate Your Local Real Estate Market with Google Maps where reveal another strategy that you can use inside of Google Maps that will get your business out in front of people who search for YOU.

I just did a search in one local area for “sell my house” and I had 4 listings show up, 4 LISTINGS! And we are talking about suburbia of a very popular metropolitan area.

So, let me know what you think about this post below in the comments.  Have you listed your business on Google maps already?  If so, did you get any business from there?  Did you do any other tricks within that strategy?  Share it in the comments below.

To Your Success,

Peter K.

“Great topic & it has covered several points regarding
search engine optimization. But I got a question, do you think onpage factors or offpage factors play a bigger role for SEO? Please advise”

  3. Peter- REBB Founder |

In my experience Tim, off-page factors play bigger role that the on-page factors. As you may know, Google has, I think about 200 or so different ranking factors (their pagerank algorithm) which is top secret. One of their most important factors that they actually reveal is the importance of off-page factors such as linking. Therefore, authority sites linking back to your site are extremely important.

    Hope this helps.

    @EJ Harris

    Ej,

It sounds like the site you are referring to will be for lead generation purposes, to get leads for your business. If that’s the case, I would go with a name that will be memorable and something that people search for. The reason why I say that is because Google puts weight on website name for the ranking algorithm. What i mean by that is that if someone searches for beef jerky, the site with a domain name beefjerky.com will get big points from Google because the site with that name will probably offer the SEARCHER the EXACT information or product he/she is looking for. So, I would do some keyword research using Google Keyword Tool, and then figure out your name.

One more thing, I would avoid dashes and numbers because they’re hard to remember. That’s why I went with “Real Estate Black Book” because the ebook is about real estate and almost everyone knows the term “black book.” It’s easy to remember.

    I hope this helps,

    Peter
