Few days ago, I wrote a post about 7 real estate social media sites that you, as a real estate professional, should be using on the internet.
Let me just say, the post was a hit.
I’m glad to hear it. It even ended up FIRST on the front page of a new real estate social bookmarking site puurple.com
For those of you who commented and voted for my post, THANK YOU very much. I really appreciate your support.
Now, what’s up with this post? Peter, what do you mean by “When Time is of An Essence?” Let me explain…
One of my readers, Brian has asked me the following question…
“Peter,
As always great content! You give away more free content about real estate Internet marketing than anyone I know!
For someone who is very limited on time could you recommend the 2 or 3 best social networking sites to focus on?”
Thanks,
Brian
Well, Brian. I’m glad you asked because in today’s age, we are all limited on time. My personal To-Do list is longer than a roll of toilet paper.
In fact, I’m outsourcing some of my tasks as we speak. And if you want to help me, let me know
Anyways, here’s my answer to Brian’s question.
First, you need to figure out what you want to achieve with social media marketing. What are your goals? Do you want to build relationships with real estate investors, real estate agents, contractors, etc.? Or, do you want to build relationship with buyers and start building your relationship with them?
You see, different goals will lead you to using different strategies, shifting your focus and using different marketing channels.
All in all, I would definitely use Facebook. It’s a great tool for building relationships and marketing to a targeted audience. Their ads are very targeted and they have many different groups that you can utilize for your efforts. best of all, their community is excellent when it comes to building relationships. No SPAM allowed.
Just login to your Facebook account and click on the groups link in the top left corner and you can search through hundreds of groups where you can contribute, build your reputation and help others with their real estate problems.
I would also use Linked In. That site has allowed me to build some great relationships with other professionals in the industry. I have been able to utilize my linkedIn relationships to generate leads throughout the country.
Sidenote: Since I’m into integrating the internet with the real estate business, I always follow the developing news. I just found out, that Facebook and LinkedIn are going to be revealing some great applications and tools for their users in fall. For instance, Facebook is working on their Facebook Connect to integrate Facebook with an IPhone and LinkedIn has partnered with NY Times. Now if you have a LinkedIn account and read news on NY Times, you’ll receive relevant news stories based on your profession and your LinkedIn account.
How relevant is all this to real estate? I’m testing different ideas and once I come up with something worth sharing, I’ll make sure to let you know.
So, those 2 sites are extremely helpful. Remember, social media is about building relationship and connecting with people. Use ‘em, don’t abuse ‘em.
One more thing, if you are planning on building your buyers list using social media, I would start connecting with buyers through communities such as Trulia or Zillow’s Duscussions and even Yahoo answers or Google Groups.
Before I sign off, let me leave you with this thought. Pay attention here because this advice is worth good money. Maybe you have already heard it before or maybe this is the first time you hear about it. Either way, I hope it resonates with you because if you keep this advice in the back of your mind while marketing on the internet, you will save thousands of dollars and get ahead of the competition.
Here it is:
